Our annual trip up to Briggs Farm in Nescopeck, PA. One of our favorite weekends of the year. Three days of fantastic music, chilling out in the welcoming embrace of the Briggs Family.
From spring as the line up gets announced it is awesome to check out bands I’ve not come across and be re-acquainted with old favorites. This year’s line up had a little for everyone, from upcoming Soul Blues acts like Annika Chambers and Southern Avenue, local stalwarts like Mikey Junior, MiZ and Brett Alexander, veterans Slam Allen, Clarence Spady and James Armstrong, psychedelic PNW rocking blues from Scott Pemberton to those continuing family legacies from Mississippi in Robert Kimbrough Sr. and Cedric Burnside. And let us not forget the future of the blues from Christone Kingfish Ingram’s high octane headline set, and the high class sweet sounds of King Solomon Hicks over on the back porch stage.
As ever, the Gospel brunch on Sunday is a treat, the campground slowing packing and clearing as people wander over for one last dose of blues. This year Saturday evening’s Slam Allen put together a beautiful collection of soulful and swinging gospel classics, to be followed by the amazing Alexis P Suter who closed out the weekend in powerful style with what she referred to as a “Saints and Sinners” set.
