Does a portrait need a smile ? What story does this image tell you ?
As I develop my portfolio of personal work I find myself challenging all my preconceptions of what a portrait should be. In connecting with someone do I need to elicit a reaction based on how I want an image to look or should I capture the person's mood and emotion. I've written before about the dance between a photographer and subject, for my personal work I'm not restricted by the confines of the client/vendor relationship and am free to work to my own vision.
I'm very grateful to Lauren for offering to come down and work with me, this day was a week past the original due date for her new baby, her resigned frustration evident.
Love or hate this photograph ?
